Woman Burnt by In-Laws for ‘Dowry’ in Pulwama, Succumbs: Family

The family members of a woman from Pulwama alleged that she was set ablaze by her in-laws in the Rajpora area of Pulwama.

Staging a protest in the Qasbyar area of Pulwama, the family alleged that Fahmeeda Akhtar who was burnt by her in-laws succumbed to her injuries at Sher e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Srinagar on Wednesday morning.

Fahmeeda Jan had been married for the past three years but was treated inhumanely at her in-law’s house, her mother said. “Even her husband did not support her,” she said.

Appealing the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama for his intervention, she said that the case should be thoroughly investigated.

The brother of the woman said that the family received got a call from her the neighbors of her in-laws that she had developed some pain and had to be rushed to the hospital. “They told us she had been taken to Rajpora hospital in Pulwama. When we reached there, she was being shifted to the Pulwama hospital.

At the hospital, she told me, ‘My in-laws forced me to burn myself.'”

Fahmeeda was transferred to Srinagar’s SKIMS hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday morning.

Kasier Ahmed a relative said that Fahmeeda was tortured constantly by her in-laws for dowry issues.
