Anantnag man gets 9 year imprisonment for murdering brother over property dispute

A court in the Anantnag district of Jammu Kashmir awarded life imprisonment to a man for killing his brother with an axe in a bid to grab his property nearly nine years ago.

Ghulam Nabi Bhat son of Mal Akad, resident of  Anantnag killed his 33-year-old brother, Mohammad Shafi, on 3 March 2013 over a property dispute.

Naseer Ahmad Dar, the Principal Sessions Judge Anantnag also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict.

The deceased is survived by a widow and three children, who were minors at the time of the murder in 2013. “While passing the sentence upon the convict, the question of compensation of the victims of the crime is also to be taken into consideration,” the court said.
