Srinagar-Leh highway reopens for traffic after 75 days on trial basis

The strategic 434 Km long Srinagar-Leh highway was reopened for traffic for trial basis on Saturday after remaining closed for nearly 2 months and 15 days due to heavy snowfall.

This is the earliest reopening of the high mountain Zojila pass and also the minimum period of the closure of the road.The highway was thrown open for traffic after remaining closed for 75 days due to snowfall.

The pass was declared opened officially by DG of BRO Lt Gen R ChoudharyHe said the road is important from the strategic point of view, being the only route between Kashmir and Ladakh.

This road is the lifeline for the survival and economic development of people of Ladakh as well as for the security forces,he added
He also said Ladakh and Ganderbal adminstration with BRO will joint inspection after then we will allow civil traffic on Srinagar leh highway

However DG BRO among Chief Engineer Kashmir, Chief Engineer Vijayak,Commander 32BRTF,3 Sector Commander and other senior officials were present on the occassion
