An encounter has broken out between militants and government forces in the Turkwangam area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district.
An official told The Kashmiriyat that on Thursday evening 44 RR of the Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF launched a joint launched a cordon and search operation in the Shopian area.
During the cordon, the hiding militants fired upon the forces, triggering off a gunfight, he said
Two to three militants are believed to be trapped.
Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that a massive exchange of gunfire is on in the Nullay area of Turwangam. “Some blasts were also heard initially,” they said.
