The Jammu Kashmir police, on Friday, conducted nocturnal raids in Srinagar’s downtown and arrested one youth from the Hawal area in connection to the ‘pro-freedom sloganeering’ at Jamia Masjid, Srinagar.
An official said that Jammu Kashmir Police conducted raids in various areas of downtown and arrested one person namely Basharat Nabi Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi Bhat, a resident of Srinagar’s Hawal area.
“More arrests are expected in the coming days while much more youth have been called to the Police stations,” the official said.
After the prayers on the first Friday of Ramadan, several Kashmiris who gathered for Friday prayers in Jamia masjid raised pro-freedom slogans. The masjid reopened in Ramadan after two years of lockdowns during the holy month.
The police also claimed that there was a Pakistan angle to the case.
“It has come to the fore that the arrested had received instructions from Pakistan to disrupt Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid and cause law and order situation in the mosque,” officials said.
The SSP of Srinagar confirmed the development to the media saying, “Main instigator behind Jamia Masjid sloganeering incident held and more arrests expected; such acts are unacceptable.”
Pertinently, After the ‘pro-freedom’ sloganeering from Jamia Masjid went viral on social media, the trolls called for the arrest of those involved in the ‘pro freedom’ sloganeering at Jamia Masjid Srinagar during Friday prayers.
