On Hanuman Jayanti, Targetted attacks against Muslims reported from Delhi, Andhra Pradesh

Six persons were injured, when the situation in Andhra Pradesh’s Kurnool town turned volatile on Sunday stone pelting between two groups during Hanuman Jayanti procession.

According to the Hindu processionists, the Muslims attacked the Yatra with stones.

According to independent reports, the trouble began when a procession was passing in front of a mosque in the evening played Bhajans and loud music during the Namaz time.

An argument between the two sides broke out and both the groups started raising slogans, triggering a tense situation, Kurnool Superintendent of Police Sudheer Kumar Reddy said.

Police took 20 persons into custody based on the video footage of the incident.

Clashes were also reported from the Jahangirpuri, where property belonging to Muslims was vandalized and several vehicles torched.

In Delhi’s Jahangirpuri, locals alleged that the far right-wing activists had been doing rounds of the locality with loud music and raising provocative slogans like ‘Bharat mai rehna hai toh Ram Ram kehna hai’, but the Muslims did not react to all this.

“It was around evening time that they tried to enter a mosque in the Jahangirpuri area of Delhi and abused Muslims to which we objected. They climbed atop the mosque to hoist a saffron flag there, but we did not allow it, after which they threw stones on us,” the local said.

Initially, Muslims did not respond when the rallies were going on throughout the day, he said, adding, “After Muslims objected to the hoisting of the flags, they attacked Muslims with stones, sticks and other weapons, after which Muslims in self-defence threw rocks at them.”
