The Government in Madhya Pradesh bulldozed at least 48 houses after an altercation between Muslims and Hindus in Jirapur town of Madhya Pradesh’s Rajgarh district on Thursday.
Most of the demolished houses belong to the Muslim community, The Indian Express reported.
The report quoted Police as saying that the altercation began when a marriage procession was passing through a mosque around 11 pm on Tuesday. Some members of the Muslim community raised an objection to the loud music being played by the band. Later Stones were reportedly pelted and at least five person including a six-year-old were injured.
The police arrested eight Muslims in connection with the incident.
Jirapur’s tehsildar, A R Chiraman said that out of the 48 houses, 18 belong to the accused.
“The accused belong to the Muslim community. While 30 encroachments on government road belong people from both communities, since the area is Muslim-dominated, these homes largely belong to those from the community,” he was quoted by TIE as saying.
