Two militants have been killed during a pre-dawn encounter that raged in Buchpora Colony of Soura area in Srinagar district.
A Police official said that the gunfight raged when militants hiding in the area fired upon forces who had launched a cordon and search in the area following inputs on militant movement in the area.
He said that in the subsequent exchange of gunfire, two militants affiliated with Lashkar e Taiba were killed and a pistol and AK 47 rifle were recovered from the possession of the duo.
The slain were identified as Shakir Ahmed Waza son of Gulzar Ahmed Waza and Afreen Malik son of Mohammed Aftab Malik, both residents of Shopian’s Trenz area.
The Kashmiriyat reported that the duo had gone missing from their home in the south Kashmir district on May 17.
The family of 24 years old Afreen Malik son of Mohammed Altaf Malik, a resident of the Babkhidar area of Trenz village had issued an appeal on social media asking the general public and Police to help them trace their missing kin.
Shakir Waza’s family had also filed a missing report at the Police station seeking the whereabouts of their 20-year-old son.
The Jammu Kashmir police on Friday morning also said that two Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militants involved in the killing of Kashmiri TV actress Amreen Bhat, have been killed during another encounter in Kashmir’s Awantipora area.
“Heinous murder case of TV artist Amreen Bhat solved in 24 hours…10 terrorists including three from Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) and seven from Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terror outfits killed in three days in Kashmir Valley,” said IGP Kashmir Vijay Kumar.
