Kashmir cleric booked under PSA for ‘Shaming’ deceased Amreen Bhat

A Kashmiri cleric has been arrested and booked under the Public Safety Act for a controversial video over the deceased TV actress, Amreen Bhat.

The Police took cognizance of the issue and booked the cleric under the Public Safety Act which allows the state to detain a person for a period upto two years.

Identified as Mohammed Irfan Bhat, the cleric has accused the TV actress of spreading “immodesty” in the society, on a YouTube video watched by nearly 1 Lakh people so far.

“If someone is to be blamed for this immodesty, it is also those who encourage such things over social media by viewing them. Not just her, all those who watch such videos and encourage such content are equally responsible for spreading immodesty in the society,” Irfan is heard saying in the 6-minute 25-second video. He is also heard advising people to pray for the deceased actress while quoting a Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad.

In the video the cleric has also raised “alarm” to other parents who engage in such “immodest” activities saying, “it is time for people to rethink, if their children are engaging in such activities. It is not likeable to Muslims when such immodesty is openly spread in the society.”

At the conclusion of the video, Irfan is heard praying for Kashmiri Muslims and especially those who engage in creation of content over social media.
