Elections closer? Chief Electoral Officer orders rationalization of all polling stations in JK

In a step towards elections in Jammu Kashmir, the Chief Electoral Officer of J&K has called for rationalization of all polling stations before June 20 as well as freezing of all Electoral Roll Operations for the region on June 2.

This order is being seen as a step closer to conduct of assembly elections in UT.

As per a report by Daily excelsior, 20 Deputy Commissioners have been directed who are also District Electoral Officers (DEOs). 20 districts in Jammu Kashmir will work out proposals for rationalization of Polling Stations, wherever necessary, in terms of the extant directions of the Election Commission of India and submit them to the CEO office by June 20.

All the 20 deputy commissioners have been asked by the CEO to file proposals for the appointment of electoral registration officers and assistant electoral registration officers.

As per the report, nce the rationalization of Polling Stations and notification of new Polling Stations, Electoral Registration Officers (EROs) of new Assembly constitutions (as per Delimitation order) under the close supervision of DEOs shall undertake activities for printing Integrated Electoral Rolls.

Once the polling stations have been rearranged and the voters are shifted to constituencies in accordance with the delimitation commission’s recommendations, the CEO will take up special summary revision of electoral rolls as per the Election Commission of India’s schedule (to be notified separately).

Special Summary Revision of e-Rolls will be undertaken as per schedule to be notified by the Election Commission of India and accordingly the publication of draft rolls, filling of claims and objections, disposal of claims and objections and final publication of Electoral Rolls will be undertaken.
