An encounter has started between militants and Government forces in the Khandipora area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Official sources told The Kashmiriyat that on Saturday night, a joint group of 9 RR, CRPF and Jammu Kashmir Police after receiving inputs about militant presence in Kulgam’s Khandipora launched a cordon and search operation.
The hiding militants opened fire on the troopers during the cordon, triggering an encounter. 2-3 militants are believed to be trapped in the area.
As per locals, searchlights have been installed around the encounter site amid an intermittent exchange of gunfire.
The Jammu Kashmir Police through its official Twitter handle confirmed the encounter saying, “#Encounter has started in Khandipora area of #Kulgam. Police and security forces are on the job. Further details shall follow.”
