Maiden fire fighting facility inaugurated at Nigeen

Nigeen Lake on Saturday witnessed its first fire fighting facility launch at Nigeen club. Divisional Commissioner Pandurang Kondbharao Pole acted as Chief Guest on the occasion.

“In the backdrop of recent gruesome fire incidents, numerous heritage properties were reduced to ashes, amid which the absence of aquatic fire fighting tenders was deeply felt by the houseboat owners”, said Nigeen Tourist Traders Association NTTA Chairman Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo while talking to media.

Wangnoo, who organised the inauguration ceremony, expressed his satisfaction and happiness on the inauguration.

He, as per GNS, said that this initiative will go a long way in helping the houseboat owners during any untoward incident especially in case of fire.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by houseboat owners, stakeholders, NTTA members and officials of Fire & Emergency and Tourism departments.

Divisional Commissioner in presence of Director Tourism Kashmir and Deputy Director Fire & Emergency Services inaugurated two fire fighting boats. The personnel deployed, demonstrated the fire fighting power of the boats.

Speaking on the inauguration, Divisional Commissioner said that these fire fighting boats procured under Smart City Project will greatly help fight any mishap & the F&ES personnel deputed in Nigeen Club will be of great help in this regard. “There already are a few boats deployed in Dal Lake”, Pole further informed.

“The efforts of Chairman NTTA are being lauded for his rigorous follow up in getting these fire fighting boats issued to Nigeen Lake” Director Tourism Dr. G N Itoo said. He expressed hope that the fire fighting boats will now create a sense of relief among the stakeholders especially houseboat owners. (GNS)
