40 percent of cherry crop damaged in Tangmarg due to incessant rains

The incessant rainfall has caused severe damage to the cherry crop in north Kashmir area, particularly in sub-division Tangmarg where cherry growers faced immense losses.

Locals from the area speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that their cherry orchards suffered immense damage due to incessant rainfall during the past several days.

People from Warapora , Hajibal, Mullabangil, Fajipora, Budipora and other hamlets of Tangmarg said that around 50 to 60 percent of fruit was on trees after which they would have taken pruning process but incessant rainfall fall has damaged everything.

“40 percent of cherries were on trees in the area, but now nothing is left here, It is all damaged. Trees full of cherries were uprooted, and the branches of several others broken,” Abdul Rahim Rather, a Cherry grower said.

The farmers appealed to the administration to compensate for the losses they suffered due to the rainfall. “Otherwise we won’t be able to survive,” a farmer said.
