15 years on, PHC Tangmarg awaits completion

The residents of Chandil area of Tangmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district here have demanded that the new building of the Primary Health Center (PHC) be made operational.

Talking to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), the locals said that the building was under construction for the past 15 years and was completed last year but is still not operational for unknown reasons.

“While the government has spent a lot of money to construct this building, unfortunately it is not known for what reasons it is not being made functional yet,” they said.

Mohammad Afzal, a local resident said that most of the villagers here had to travel long distances to Tangmarg Sub-District Hospital or Magam for even minor treatment, which causes a lot of hardships to the people.

“We informed them about the problem whenever the officials visited the area but nothing is being done so far,” said Ishfaq Ahmad, another local.

He said that the administration should make the building functional as soon as possible so that the poor people here could heave a sigh of relief.

Saleema Jan, a local resident said that if this building could have been made functional, the poor people here would not have been able to get better healthcare at PHC.

The locals also urged the district administration Baramulla to make this building functional at earliest.

Meanwhile, an official said that the issue will be taken up with senior officials and hopefully the matter will be solved very soon—(KNO)
