‘We want our school back’, Students stage protest in Srinagar’s Press Colony after finding school door locked

Several students along with their teachers staged a protest on Monday morning in Srinagar’s press colony stating that their school had been locked down by the authorities.

Speaking to the press here, a teacher said that the school located in Srinagar’s Mahraj Gunj had been shut through an official order after Arya Samaj demanded our evacuation from its property.

She said that the school had been paying rent till 2012 and in the same year, we paid them an amount of 3 Lakh rupees, after which the claimed owner asked the school to pay the rent, a teacher of from the Naqshband Public School said. “We were provided no prior notices by the officials,” she said.

A parent said, “The school has been operating for the past thirty years, We have not been provided with any reasons for the shutting down of the school. The students are preparing for exams and the shutting down of the school has caused immense trouble.”

A student who was a part of the protest said that the school was shut down a few days ago. “The Tehsildar along with other officials came a few days and shut down the school for reasons unknown,” he said.

Meanwhile, Locals speaking to The Kashmiriyat, said that the Arya Samaj Kashmir has laid its claim over the property and has been demanding an evacuation of the school from its property.
