Teacher who asked Students not to Throw Stones Booked for Inciting Violence in Kulgam

A teacher posted in Government Degree College in Kulgam identified as Abdul Bari has been booked for inciting violence in the college campus by the Jammu Kashmir Police.

In August forces entered the premises of Government Degree College in Kulgam and fired tear smoke shells inside the college premises after which the students threw at the Government Forces.

Abdul Bari who is a resident of Czadder area in Kulgam according to eyewitnesses intervened and managed to control the students and disperse them away from the spot after which the students left the college.

“I request the students not to pelt stones, they always can fight their battles through the pen, the stones should not be our weapon,” Dr. Abdul Bari said in a video message to The Kashmiriyat later in the day.

Abdul Bari in his constant social messages has been raising concerns against the illegal encroachments and illegal mining in this South Kashmir district.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat over phone he said that he had also spoken against the establishment of an Army camp in the Redwani as education was badly impacted due to the establishment of this camp in the middle of the village, a school was also shut for many days.

He said that he was transferred to Ganderbal district for raising voice against the injustice, but in October he got a stay order against the same adding that the Deputy commissioner of Kulgam has been troubling him constantly.

A disciplinary committee in August had found the behavior of Abdul Bari who is a Ph.D Scholar from Aligarh Muslim University as extra ordinary and said he had good relations with students.

“He is a lovely teacher, the students love him, he helps us and takes care of all the students,” a student of Degree College Kulgam said.

The student while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that the district administration is against Dr. Abdul Bari as he is outspoken and never hesitates to defend the truth.

“We will protest if our teacher is arrested,” he told The Kashmiriyat assuring that the students will offer full support to the teacher, if forces take any action against him.

The MLA of Kulgam, Mohammed Yusuf Tarigami while speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that he will intervene into the matter.
