Mawar residents in Kupwara aghast over polluted river water

Shah Basit

The residents of the Mawar belt in Kupwara have their anger over the contamination of water in the Mawar nallah in the north Kashmir district.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that for nearly a fortnight, locals are suffering due to the polluted water in Mawar Nallah. “We are not able to use the water for our daily necessities as it is polluted and stinky. We feel that the usage of water may lead to water-borne diseases”, they said.

Locals insisted that Mawar Nallah is the primary source of water for most of the areas, and they urged the authorities to look into the situation right away.

The delegation members said, “There are some unknown and external factors behind all this, and we humbly ask the authorities to look into the matter on a priority to avert any exigency,” adding that they hoped the authorities would recognise the potential causes of the unjustified pollution of the significant water source.
