At least ten people have died and 55 were injured after a bus carrying pilgrims to Mata Vaishnoo Devi shrine fell into gorge in Jajjar Koti area of Jammu district on Tuesday morning.
Senior Superintendent of police Jammu Chandan Kohil told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the bus was on way to Katra from Amritsar when its driver lost control at a bridge near Jannar Koti and it fell into a gorge.
He said that in the incident 10 people have died and 55 are injured, while a major rescue operation has been launched. “All the injured have admitted to Government Medical College Jammu,” he said.
Principal of GMC Jammu, Dr Shashi Sudan told KNO that two injured who were brought to hospital were declared dead, while others had died on the spot.
She added that all the injured are under treatment at the hospital and among them two are critical.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha has expressed his sorrow over the incident.
“Extremely pained by the loss of lives in a tragic bus accident in Jhajjar Kotli, Jammu. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families & prayers for speedy recovery of the injured,” office of LG J&K tweeted.
He also said that he has directed the district administration to provide all possible assistance and treatment to the injured.
Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Jammu Anvy Lavasa talking to KNO also confirmed that 10 people have died in the accident and 55 have been injured—(KNO)
