Woman threatened, blackmailed by north Kashmir man: Police

The Jammu Kashmir Police on Thursday claimed to have arrested a man who was blackmailing and threatening a woman in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, Police said, Post Delina received written complaint from one person (name withheld) wherein he stated that his daughter (name withheld) is being continuously blackmailed and threatened by unknown caller since long and has caused his daughter severe distress and unknown caller has extorted handsome money from his daughter but when the situation got worsened, she disclosed whole story to her father.

Acting upon the complaint, Police registered a case FIR under relevant sections in Police Station Baramulla and investigation was started.

Baramulla Police led by PSI Rayees Ahmad IC PP Delina under the supervision of Sajjad Bukhari-JKPS, DySP Hqrs Baramulla after strenuous efforts arrested the extortionist identified as Owais Rashid Bhat @ Zaidaan @ Sahabaa, R/O Chitloora Rafiabad Sopore from his home and was taken into custody immediately.

Further investigation, of the case is going on with regard to recovery of extortion money.

“Baramulla police is committed to women safety. Female citizens are requested to come forward with all such kind of grievances and we assure them that their safety and security will be ensured at all cost,” Police said.
