A major data breach has been reported in India, wherein the personal data of all vaccinated persons in the country have been leaked online.
As per news reports, the leaked data includes Aadhaar, voter ID, Passport numbers & mobile numbers of those vaccinated against covid 19.
As per the report, the data has been leaked from India’s official COVID-19 vaccination tracking app CoWin. “Leaked data includes the passport numbers of individuals who travelled abroad and updated their travel history on the CoWin app,” added the report by South Asia Index
Meanwhile, the Government has said that data in the CoWin portal — the country’s Covid-19 vaccination tracking platform — is completely safe.
“Co-WIN portal of Health Ministry is completely safe with safeguards for data privacy… Only OTP authentication-based Access of Data is provided,” read a statement from the Union Health Ministry.
