Former Twitter CEO says Indian govt threatened Twitter during Farmers’ protest

Twitter founder Jack Dorsey has said that Twitter received numerous requests from India to block accounts related to Farmers’ Protests and those who were critical of the government.

Jack, during a live show, mentioned that during the farmers protest India had put pressure on Twitter, including threats of shutting down the platform in the country, conducting raids on employees’ homes, and closing down Twitter offices, if Twitter did not comply.

“‘We would raid the homes of your employees’, which they did; ‘we will shut down your offices if you don’t follow suit’. And this is India, a democratic country,” said Dorsey on ‘pressure’ from India.

Dorsey’s comments came as he was asked to give some examples of pressure from foreign governments so that the audience had an idea how it felt when some of the “most powerful people” on the planet approached him and demanded things from the company.

Pertinently, the farmers of Punjab and Haryana held sit-in protests for over a year against three farms bills introduced by BJP-led Government. During the yearlong protest hundreds of farmers, opposed to the bills to privatize the farming sector of India’ died.

The Twitter co-founder Dorsey’s has made the claims during an interview with YouTube channel Breaking Point.
