Another earthquake hits Jammu Kashmir, second in less than 24 hours

An earthquake measuring 4.3 on the Richter scale hit the town of Katra in Jammu Kashmir during the early hours of Wednesday.

The National Centre for Seismology provided further details about the earthquake in their tweet.

The seismic event had a magnitude of 4.3 and took place on June 15, 2023, at precisely 02:20:59 Indian Standard Time (IST). The coordinates of the epicentre were recorded as latitude 33.14 and longitude 75.79. The earthquake originated at a depth of 10 kilometres.

The earthquake’s epicentre was located approximately 81 kilometres east-northeast of Katra, situated in the Jammu and Kashmir region of India, the National Centre for Seismology stated.

This is the second earthquake in the region in less than 24 hours.

Earlier on Tuesday an earthquake has struck the region with its epicentre in Doda district of Jammu Kashmir.
