Flood Department asks field staff to stay alert as water level increase in Kashmir rivers

The Chief Engineer Irrigation and flood control department Srinagar on Saturday asked all field staff to remain alert and keep the flood fighting machinery in readiness.

The Official has asked the committees to remain alert amid the intermittent rainfall and the wet weather prediction till July 09.

“In view of forecast of heavy rains predicted by the Meteorological Department from 08-07- 2023 to 09-07-2023 all the Flood Zonal Committees are directed to remain alert in their respective jurisdictions and monitor the situation closely. They will keep the flood fighting machinery in readiness for their immediate mobilization in the event of any flood like situation,” read a circular of the Chief Engineer, I&FC Kashmir, which was acccessed by The Kashmiriyat.

Meanwhile the Kulgam district Police has issued helpline numbers in view of the rainfall.

In a press release issued to The Kashmiriyat, Police said, “In view of inclement weather/incessant rainfall, Emergency helpline desk has been established by District Police Kulgam to facilitate the general Public and to avoid any untoward incident or distress.

Sinthan Pass and Margan Pass shut

Meanwhile, Executive Magistrate larnoo has ordered the closure of Sinthan Pass and Margan Pass Road from 8 of July 2023 onwards in view of Bad 1Veather Conditions.

“In view of predictions by the Metrological Department for widespread and Heavy rains and Snowfall in upper reaches, people of Tehsil Larnoo and outside tourists are advised to refrain from venturing in landslide and shooting stone prone areas,” read the order accessed by The Kashmiriyat.

Moreover, rainfall/thunderstorm/snowfall may lead to disruption of traffic on Sinthan pass and Margan Pass roads.

People and tourists are advised to refrain from travelling on these roads from 8. of July 2023 till Weather improves. Also, incompliance to the directions of Sub Divisional Magistrate Kokernag, Naib-Tehsildar Larnoo and SHO Larnoo are hereby directed to setup Naka at Daksum and Gowran roads and restrain vehicular traffic on these roads from 8. of July 2023 till weather improves.

Moreover, Assistant Tourist Officer Kokemag Shall place 4 tourist guards at Daksum Naka and Range officer Daksum shall place 4 forest Guards at Gowran Naka from 4 P.M to 9:00 A.M on the days, when the roads are closed, read the order.
