In view of the rising water levels in Chenab, the administration has evacuated at least 97 families to safer locations in the Garkhal village in the Akhnoor sub-division of Jammu district.
An official said that on Saturday a massive rescue operation was launched in the Jammu area following the Chenab River’s breach.
43 families were already shifted and due to constant rainfall since morning, the situation deteriorated further forcing the evacuation of 97 families to safer places where temporary shelters have been established for them, he said.
