Unable to pay fees, Jammu Kashmir student kills self in Punjab

A student from Jammu Kashmir pursuing BAMS final year allegedly jumped off the roof of his hostel in Punjab.

Reports reaching The Kashmiriyat said that a student who was a resident of Kishtwar who and was pursuing final year BAMS at Desh Bhagat University in Mandl Gobindgarh jumped off the roof of the hostel building.

The 23-year-old was reportedly under stress for not being able to pay the fee for the supplementary exams.

Father of the deceased demanding stringent action against the authorities, termed his death  a murder and said, “My son was fined Rs 12 lakh for repeatedly flunking supplementary examinations. I was called by the university authorities to discuss the matter but was not treated properly there.”

He said that his son took that as an insult and jumped off the wall of the hostel later on Sunday night (July 30).

The students rushed him to the university hospital. However, there was no doctor and he was rushed to a hospital in Khanna on a motorcycle.

The Kishtwar student collapsed on the way, his father alleged.

As the news of his death spread, students staged a dharna against the university authorities.

The Amloh police, led by SP (Investigation) Rakesh Yadav and DSP Jangjit Singh assured the agitating students that the matter would be investigated.
