Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) has received research grant from National Commission for Women for “Examining the impact of Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) on cooking fuel choice and the health of women in Jammu Kashmir”.
Dr. Irfan Sofi, the Principal Investigator of the project, and his research team will assess the extent to which Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana (PMUY) scheme has helped in reducing the consumption of solid fuels for cooking, and evaluate the health benefits of the same for women particularly in rural areas of Jammu Kashmir.
The findings from this project will be helpful in developing targeted interventions that increase the adoption of clean fuels and improve women’s health outcomes in Jammu Kashmir.
Prof. Shakil A Romshoo, Vice Chancellor IUST congratulated the team and emphasized on the importance of conducting research in areas of societal importance.
Prof. Mohammad Shafi Sofi, Head Department of Economics also complimented Dr. Irfan for the grant and emphasized that such efforts are essential in evolving research based solutions.
