6 residential houses gutted in Sopore blaze

At least six residential houses were gutted in a blaze that broke out in Shahabad locality of Sopore town in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Monday.

According to the details available with the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), at least six residential houses were damaged when a massive fire engulfed Shahbad area of Sopore.

The fire reportedly broke out due to a short circuit and within no time spread to other houses.

The firefighters as well as police reached the spot immediately and doused the flames with the help of locals.

Due to narrow lanes, it was difficult for fire tenders to reach the spot, officials said.

There was no loss of life in the incident, however, six houses gutted and property worth lakhs of rupees were gutted in the blaze.

The blaze has rendered more than 6 families homeless.

Officials from the civil administration and police visited the spot to assess the damage.

Locals, however, urged the government to provide assistance to the fire affected families so that they could heave a sigh of relief.

“We are pinning hope on the government now. We appeal to the government to extend financial assistance to us,” the victims said—(KNO)
