The Supreme Court of India has imposed a cash penalty on Ladakh administration while dismissing the petition opposing allotment to ‘plough’ symbol to JKNC in Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council polls. (LAHDC)
Ladakh admin had announced the dates for LAHDC polls as September 10 and the dates for filing nominations were closed on August 23, however, the Supreme Court has set aside the order and asked the admin to issue a fresh order on poll dates.
Earlier, the Ladakh administration has decided not to allot the NC’s symbol plough for the polls.
NC moved the Jammu Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, which ruled in its favour allowing the party candidates to contest the LAHDC-Kargil polls on its plough symbol, however, the admin moved to Supreme Court.
On September 1, the apex court reserved its verdict on the NC’s plea challenging the denial of the party’s symbol to its candidates for the LAHDC-Kargil polls.
On Wednesday, the Supreme Court set aside the notification for Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council (LAHDC) elections in the Kargil region and directed the admin to issue fresh notification on the polls within seven days.
“Jammu Kashmir National Conference party is entitled to ‘plough’ symbol,” Supreme Court held.
