In a Paris metro station on Tuesday morning (Oct 31), Paris police shot and critically injured a woman wearing a hijab after commuters reported her behaving in a “threatening” manner.
A police spokesperson explained, ‘Out of fear for their own safety, police agents used their weapons,’ but could not specify what behavior by the ‘fully-veiled’ woman at the Bibliotheque Nationale de France station led to the officers firing shots.
The fire service, providing immediate medical assistance, reported that a bullet had pierced the woman’s abdomen.
She has since been transported to a nearby hospital and is in critical condition. Reports from Broadcaster BFM TV and daily newspaper Le Parisien had suggested that the woman’s conduct seemed unusual and hinted at a potential Islamist ‘terrorist’ motive.
Additionally, she was reported to have shouted ‘Allahu akbar,’ Arabic for ‘God is the Greatest,’ as documented by the Daily Mail.
Following the incident, the metro station was evacuated, as confirmed by Reuters.”
