‘Scourge of violence is back again’: Political parties condemn killings in Kashmir

Back to back killings of a non-local labourer and policeman in Kashmir was denounced by the prominent political parties.

The victim, Mukesh Kumar, hailing from Uttar Pradesh, fell victim to militants’ gunfire while en route to a local bank in Nowpora Parigam village, located in the Newa area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Mukesh, a father of four, was employed at a brick kiln at the time of the incident.

Militants fired upon one labourer identified as Mukesh of UP in the Tumchi Nowpora area of Pulwama, who later on succumbed to his injuries, Kashmir Zone Police wrote on Twitter on Tuesday.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha condoled the tragic loss of life due to militant attack. In a message, the Lt Governor said the killing of innocent civilian Mukesh Kumar, a resident of Uttar Pradesh, will not go unpunished.

“I strongly condemn the despicable and cowardly militant attack in Pulwama. Heartfelt condolences to the family of Mukesh Kumar,” he said.

Condemning the attack, National Conference President Dr Farooq said, “I received the news with utmost grief and shock. There are no words strong enough to condemn this heinous attack. I express my sympathies with the bereaved family and pray for peace to the departed soul.”

JKNC vice president Omar Abdullah said, “Another unacceptable & indefensible targeted attack against a non-local labourer. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family.”

PDP Chief Mehbooba Mufti said that the targetted killing of migrant workers is heart breaking. “Migrant workers leave their families to earn their livelihood. To see them being targeted is heartbreaking. Condemn the killing of a labourer in Pulwama today. Deepest condolence to his family.”

People’s Conference leader Sajad Lone, while condemning the attack, said the scourge of violence is back.

Sajad wrote on X: “The scourge of violence is back again. Senseless brutal attack on a police officer yesterday and the killing of a labourer in Pulwama today is indicative of the desperation of these brutal thugs.”

“Deeply aggrieved by the killing of an innocent non-local in Pulwama district. The killing is absolutely senseless and won’t serve any purpose to anyone,” said Angad Singh Khalsa.
