Kashmiri doctor wins Oliver Trexar Award for groundbreaking urological methodology

A Kashmiri doctor has been presented with the prestigious Oliver Trexar Award.

Dr. Syed Sajjad Nazir, the Head of the Department of Urology and Renal Transplantation at SS Hospital GMC Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, was awarded for his outstanding video presentation on the application of laser techniques in the treatment of impacted large upper ureteric calculi.

The innovative methodology showcased in the presentation garnered acclaim from peers and experts in the field. The award ceremony took place at the 6th Advancements in Endourology held in Ahmedabad from December 15-17, 2023, which was attended by a distinguished international faculty.

The video presentation, highlighting Dr. Nazir’s groundbreaking approach, was featured during an international conference inaugurated by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Chief Minister of Gujarat Bhupinder Bhai Patel.

Expressing his gratitude upon receiving the award, Professor (Dr) Syed Sajjad Nazir conveyed his deep honor and dedication to advancing urological care. Under his leadership, the Department of Urology has been a pioneer in minimally invasive techniques for renal stones, notably with the introduction of RIRS since 2018.

Acknowledging the achievement, Principal/Dean GMC Srinagar Dr. Masood Tanvir praised the department’s endeavors in enhancing patient care and outcomes. Dr. Tanveer Iqbal, Associate Professor of Urology, highlighted that the recognition not only applauds the urology team’s commitment but also underscores the significance of laser techniques in the treatment of upper ureteric calculi.
