Locals joyous as Kashmir receives fresh snowfall; Air and surface traffic hit

After prayers of over weeks across the Kashmir valley, people on Sunday rejoiced a fresh blanket of snow that covered the plains and hilly areas across the region.

Locals told The Kashmiriyat that on Sunday morning people across the Kashmir valley woke up to a refreshing views of snow from north to south Kashmir.

The capital city of Kashmir, Srinagar, has also received snowfall upto 5 inches.

Though the farmers, environmentalists, and several other sections of the society in Kashmir arre rejoicing the snowfall, the snowfall has also led to road and air traffic disruptions in the region.

As per the officials the Srinagar- Jammu highway has been shut for the double-way traffic and the department has issued an advisory asking people to travel on the road only in unavoidable circumstances.

“Jammu Srinagar NHW through (single way) for vehicular movement. Commuters are advised to follow lane discipline, drive with cautiously, as part of road between Nashri and NAVYUG Tunnel is single lane, slippery www condition at a number of places and also snowing between Ramsoo and Banihal/raining on whole NH-44,” Traffic officials said.

Meanwhile,  disruptions in flight operations were reported from Sheikh ul Alam Airport in Srinagar where a few flights have been delayed or canceled in view of the snowfall.

As per the details received by The Kashmiriyat, all Air India flights to and from Srinagar have been cancelled for today.

Flights numbered AI827/828, AI825/826, AI821/822, AI3525/4426 have been cancelled so far.

Meanwhile, as per a latest notification, the train service have also suspended temporarily in the Kashmir valley. “Train service may be affected due to snowfall due to which there may be changes in the current traffic. Please support the Railways in this trouble. Officials and staff are busy in their job to clean the railway tracks,” officials said.
