Ready to conduct assembly elections in Jammu Kashmir: ECI

The Election Commission of India announced its readiness to conduct assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting the highest voter turnout in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in the last four decades.

Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar stated during a press conference in New Delhi that Jammu and Kashmir recorded an overall voter turnout of 58.58%, with the Kashmir Valley seeing a turnout of 51.05%.

He emphasized the absence of major incidents reported during the polls nationwide, including in Jammu and Kashmir.

The 7-phase Lok Sabha elections concluded on June 1, with vote counting scheduled for the following day.

Exit polls on June 1 indicated a significant victory for the PM Modi-led NDA, potentially securing over 350 seats.

Heightened security measures have been implemented for the vote counting process across the country, including in Jammu and Kashmir.

Exit polls suggested the National Conference winning all three Lok Sabha seats in the Kashmir Valley, the BJP securing two seats in the Jammu division, and the Congress winning the lone Lok Sabha seat in Ladakh.
