A massive blast has been heard at the site of the encounter in the Modergam area of Kulgam in south Kashmir, locals told The Kashmiriyat.
Two encounters are underway in Kulgam district, one in Modergam and the other one in Chingam area of Frisal.
Officials told The Kashmiriyat that government forces including RR of Indian Army, Jammu Kashmir Police and CRPF had jointly launched a cordon and search operation in the areas, following information on militant presence in the area.
During the operations, militants opened fire on the party of government forces, to which the forces retaliated. “Two army man have been killed during the encounter, one in each encounter,” they said.
The Inspector Genral of Jammu Kashmir Police, VK Birdi addressing the press in Kulgam said that some dead bodies had been spotted at the site of the encounter in Chingam, however, “the details will be shared only after the encounter is over.”
Sources told The Kashmiriyat that civilians have been evacuated from the site of the encounter while reinforcements have been rushed to the spot.
“Search lights have been installed while the entry and exit points to the areas have been sealed to not give any chance to militants to escape,” they said.
At around 9:50 P.M., locals said a massive blast was heard near the site of the encounter in Modergam signalling that the encounter had entered it’s final stage.
In Chingam, meanwhile, a top militant commander is believed to be trapped, while four militants have been killed, sources informed The Kashmiriyat.
