After coming under immense pressure on social media, Aga Syed Ruhullah Mehdi, Member of Parliament from Srinagar, has posted out a letter on social media, reaching out to the newly appointed Chief Minister of Jammu Kashmir, Omar Abdullah, with a letter highlighting critical issues facing the state.
Aga Ruhullah has faced criticism from certain social media users following Omar Abdullah’s meetings with the Home Minister and the Prime Minister of India. He has also been targeted after the Chief Minister-led cabinet passed a resolution seeking statehood instead of advocating for Article 370. During his election campaign, Aga stated that the National Conference would not compromise on Article 370.
Congratulating Abdullah on his new role, Mehdi expressed hope for leadership that aligns government actions with the aspirations of the people. He emphasized that addressing these issues could greatly benefit society and foster a more inclusive and just administration.
In his letter, Mehdi urged the Chief Minister to prioritize the release of prisoners who have been held without trial. He highlighted the plight of such individuals, stressing the need to uphold justice and the rule of law.
“Your government should prioritize efforts to facilitate their release, ensuring justice and upholding the rule of law,” he wrote, adding that this action would resonate with those who value fairness and due process.
Another focal point of the letter was the rationalization of reservation policies. Mehdi called for a review of current policies, advocating for a balanced approach that supports deserving sections of society without compromising open merit.
According to him, a fair policy could promote social equity and create an inclusive environment while maintaining standards of excellence.
Employment was also a key issue Mehdi addressed, stressing the need for swift filling of government vacancies.
He argued that such action could reduce unemployment and boost the local economy by providing thousands of candidates with employment opportunities. He urged the government to see this as a priority that could alleviate economic hardship for many families.
As winter approaches, Mehdi expressed concern over high electricity tariffs and supply issues. He encouraged the Chief Minister to consider reducing tariffs to alleviate the burden on consumers, particularly as families brace for harsh winter conditions.
Ensuring a stable electricity supply, he argued, would be essential for residents facing the cold months ahead.
The final point in the letter addressed the existing verification processes for applicants, which Mehdi described as harsh and often unfair. He argued that the process penalizes individuals for actions they may not have committed and urged Abdullah’s administration to make the verification procedures more just and fair for all applicants.
