In a shocking incident, a couple was attacked by an unidentified masked intruder in Hazratbal, Srinagar, on Wednesday morning.
The attack left the wife critically injured and the husband shaken but determined to catch the perpetrator.
As per eyewitnesses, the incident occurred around 9 a.m. at the residence of Ghulam Rasool Khan.
According to Khan who spoke to The Kashmiriyat, the attack began when his wife, who was in the kitchen making tea, was suddenly assaulted. “I was sleeping when I heard my wife screaming,” he recounted. “I rushed to the kitchen and saw an unknown man attacking her. When I intervened, he turned on me, biting my hands and punching my face multiple times.”
Khan described the assailant as wearing a mask, who was a non local, making identification difficult. During the assault, his wife, who was wearing two gold bangles, suffered serious injuries.
“She was attacked with a sharp object on her throat and wrist. Her blood was all over the floor,” Khan added. She was later rushed to SKIMS hospital for treatment.
Despite his injuries, Khan pursued the attacker, who attempted to flee the scene. Neighbors, alerted by the commotion, intervened and managed to apprehend the intruder outside the house.
“I heard cries from the house and ran inside,” a neighbor said. “The woman was lying in a pool of blood. I picked up a weapon from the spot to protect myself and others.”
The police were promptly informed and arrived at the scene to take the attacker into custody.
Though Khan has said that the assistant was a non local, his identity and motive remain unknown as investigations are underway.
The incident has left the neighborhood in shock, with residents calling for heightened security measures in the area.
The condition of the injured woman remains critical but stable at SKIMS.
