Abbas Ansari hospitalized, Family appeals Kashmiris to pray for his speedy recovery

Senior Hurriyat leader and chairman of Itehad ul Muslimeen, Molvi Abbas Ansari has been hospitalized after his health deteriorated on Friday morning.

A family member speaking to The Kashmiriyat said that Molvi Abbas has been admitted to the Sher e Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences in Soura Srinagar and is currently undergoing treatment. “The surgery has just finished and he has been taken into the ICU, where he will be under constant observance of the doctors,” the family member said.

“We ask Kashmiris to pray for his speedy recovery. People should remember Abbas Sahab in their prayers and also pray for his good health,” the family member said.

One of the most popular leaders in the Kashmir valley, Abbas Ansari was also the former chairman of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference.

His Party Jammu Kashmir Ittihadul Muslimeen (JKIM), one of the first constituents of the Muslim United Front in 1987, has always promoted Shi’a–Sunni unity in Kashmir & “independence” of Jammu Kashmir from India through peaceful struggle.

Abbas was born on 18 August 1936, in Srinagar to the influential Ansari family. His autobiography Khar e Gulistan speaks of his political journey through Kashmir’s politics.
