Admin grants permission for historical 8th Muharram procession in Srinagar

The administration has granted permission for the Muharram procession on the 8th of Muharram, which will take place from Guru Bazar to Dalgate via Budshah Kadal and M.A Road in Srinagar, sources told The Kashmiriyat.

An application from the Yaadgar-i-Hussaini Committee requested permission for the procession, following which a review was called in.

The Senior Superintendent of Police, Srinagar, conveyed no objection to the request.

In this regard, the District Magistrate of Srinagar issued the order, of which a copy is available with The Kashmiriyat.

The permission is subject to several conditions. The DC Srinagar has ordered that the procession must use only one lane of the road, leaving the other lane open for emergency vehicles.

As per the order, the procession must conclude within the timeframe set by the administration, and organizers must avoid any “anti-national or anti-administration” activities, speeches, or slogans.

“Additionally, the procession should not affect communal harmony or disrespect national symbols. Flags with provocative slogans or photos of terrorists are prohibited” the official directed.

The organisers have been asked to cooperate with local police and government agencies and  ensure smooth traffic flow, while avoid using drones, public address systems, or loudspeakers “that could cause inconvenience.”

The procession is scheduled to start from Guru Bazar at 6:00 AM, cross Jehangir Chowk by 6:30 AM, and pass J&K Bank Headquarters on M.A. Road by 8:00 AM, taking into account the movement of ambulances, students, office staff, and general passengers, the order read.
