After 2 hours of receding, water rises again at Jhelum in Srinagar

After a brief dip, water levels at river Jhelum rise again in Srinagar. Earlier gauge readings up to 4 P.M. had indicated a decline in water levels, but the latest measurements now show a marked rise.

The latest gauge reading taken around 5 P.M. showed the water level at Ram Munshi Bagh in Srinagar at 20.86 feet, just below the 21-foot mark that signals a flood declaration.

At Sangam in Anantnag, the water level was recorded at 23.86 feet, with the flood declaration mark set at 25 feet.

Meanwhile, at Pampore, the gauge indicated a level of 6.04 meters against the 5-meter flood alert mark.

Officials said the situation is being closely monitored as levels in several stretches of the Jhelum continue to rise due to ongoing rainfall.

Earlier today, several neighbourhoods were flooded in Kursoo Rajbagh where the authorities cautioned people to stay alert as the rescue measures were underway.
