At least 250 Militants are still active in Jammu Kashmir even as Government forces killed around 230 of them during Anti-militancy operations in the Kashmir valley this year.
Director General of police (DGP) Dilbagh Singh told the TOI that though the militant recruitment had declined considerably in the last two months, there were still 250 active terrorists in the region.
“Fall in the recruitment,” the DGP said “was an indication that youth in Kashmir realized the futility of violence and didn’t find it appealing anymore.”
Stone pelting incidents have also decreased, again an indicator of peoples’ cooperation with the forces, the DGP said.
He said the police was targeting top commanders. “We try to ensure that operations are conducted without any collateral damage,” he said adding that the government is seriously pursuing the rehabilitation policy for those who have shunned the path of violence.
