After bail in 11 cases, ‘Maoist’ arrested again under UAPA while leaving Jail

Danish Alias Krishnan (30) who hails from Coimbatore, and is also a suspected Maoist was arrested while he was coming out of the jail in Thrissur after obtaining bail in 11 UAPA cases against him.

Danish had been in the Kerala jail since his arrest from Palakkad district in October 2018, and had been getting bail in one case after another.

He could have finally emerged out of the high-security prison after meeting the conditions in the latest bail order, which was issued by a district court in November 2019.

The Anti-Terror Squad (ATS) of Kerala Police arrested Danish again under UAPA allegedly in a 2019 case which states he allegedly spread Maoist pamphlets in a tribal colony in Kozhikode.

The ATS said, “Danish has raised the slogan ‘Maoist Zindabad’ which is an evidence to show that he is a member of the banned Maoist organisation.”

A human rights group in Kerala has condemned the arrest of Danish and has alleged that the arrest was a planned move and said, “Danish had received bail in each case one by one. For the last case also, he got bail from a Palakkad court on Monday. It was right when he was coming out of the high-security central prison on Tuesday morning that a large group of Anti-
Terror Squad (ATS) of the Kerala Police came to the spot and arrested him in another case and took him to a court in Kozhikode.”

The High Court advocate Tushar Nirmal Sarathi has also commented, “We will challenge Danish’s arrest. He was in police custody since October 2019. Now, the ATS has come up with a UAPA case only to ensure he is not released from jail. The incident in which Danish has been made an accused took place before his arrest.

The police could not identify anyone who visited the tribal colony to propagate Maoism. Now, the ATS has suddenly found that Danish was in the
team,” as reported by Indian Express.

Danish has been made an accused before his arrest, the police could not identify anyone who visited the tribal colony to propagate Maoism.
