Pakistan has released BSF jawan Purnam Sau, who was captured last month after reportedly crossing the border during an evacuation mission in Punjab’s Firozpur. His release comes amid a fragile ceasefire between India and Pakistan following weeks of heightened tensions.
Sau’s capture on April 23, a day after the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 people, had triggered concern. A photo released by Pakistan had confirmed he was in their custody.
Despite initial assurances, his family had complained of no updates.
Sau’s release is believed to have been facilitated through backchannel diplomacy as both countries moved to reduce hostilities.
More updates to follow.
