After weeks of sweltering heat, Kashmir likely to get rain from tomorrow: MeT

The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Monday issued a forecast predicting intermittent rainfall and thunderstorms across Jammu Kashmir from July 1 to 8.

The announcement comes after weeks of intense heat, rapidly drying rivers, and growing fears of an agricultural drought across the valley.

According to the department, the weather on June 30 will remain partly to generally cloudy with brief rain spells, especially in parts of the Jammu division.

From July 1 to 5, light to moderate rain is expected at scattered places, which may intensify between July 6 and 8, bringing widespread showers across several regions.

While the rainfall could bring some relief to parched farmlands, the MeT Centre has issued a cautionary advisory, warning of possible flash floods, landslides, and shooting stones in vulnerable hilly areas.Residents and travellers have been urged to stay alert, especially in landslide-prone zones.

Despite the rain forecast, agricultural experts say more sustained rainfall is needed to avert a full-scale drought. Still, farmers have been advised to continue agricultural operations for now, as no immediate disruption is expected.
