An Air India flight bound for London from Ahmedabad suffered a crash during take-off at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport on Thursday evening, triggering a large-scale emergency response. The incident occurred during routine operations on the tarmac, according to preliminary information.
The Ahmedabad Fire and Emergency Services Department responded promptly, deploying over five fire-fighting vehicles from multiple divisions across the city. “Fire control measures are being carried out as a precaution,” said a senior fire department official. Emergency teams are currently on-site, conducting rescue and assessment operations.
The aircraft was carrying 242 passengers at the time of the incident. While several injuries are feared, the exact number of casualties or the severity of injuries has not yet been confirmed.
The cause of the crash and the extent of damage to the aircraft remain under investigation. Airport authorities have launched an internal inquiry, and a technical team has begun a detailed assessment of the scene.
Both Air India and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) are expected to issue official statements as more information becomes available.
Further details are awaited.
