The Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, who was rumored to be dead, was spotted in a video released on the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks.
Multiple media outlets cited the US-based SITE Intelligence Group that tracks the online activity of extremist outfits and reported that Al-Zawahiri was seen in the video on Saturday.
Rita Katz, the director of US-based SITE said on Twitter that new doubts have emerged that the 60-minute video footage was fresh.
Although, the Al-Qaeda chief did not mention the Taliban’s return to power. Thus, his remarks on the US withdrawal from Afghanistan were assumed to have been made as early as Feb 2020.
The hour-long video was released by Al-Qaeda’s media barm as-Sahab.
Al-Qaeda’s official media arm as-Sahab released the hour-long video statement of al-Zawahiri, who was earlier rumored to be dead or incapacitated.
Al-Zawahiri, the successor of Osama bin Laden has been underground for a long time. He was rumored to be dead or incapacitated, after the news of his death from illness circulated in November 2020.
Although, in the latest video which was reportedly released on some Telegram channels, al-Zawahiri looked healthy.

In the video, he has reportedly said that after 20 years of war, America was “broken and shattered” and finally returning from Afghanistan.
