Yet another case of domestic violence has surfaced in the Anantnag district of South Kashmir, where a 23-year-old woman consumed poison on Saturday noon.

The 26-year-old woman, a resident of the Mattan area in Anantnag allegedly consumed the poison after her in-laws subjected her to physical and mental torture for quite a while and during an argument on Saturday morning, she consumed poison.

Speaking to The Kashmiriyat, the mother of the woman said that she has been subjected to physical and mental torture by her in-laws especially by her father and mother-in-law. “Her mother-in-law is forcing her son to get re-married,” said the mother.

Early on Saturday, the mother got a call that her 26-yer-old daughter had consumed poison and was being treated at a nearby hospital. “She had been rushed to the hospital by her brother-in-law, when I reached there, I got her shifted to the GMC in Anantnag.”

Accusing the family of domestic violence, her mother alleged that her father-in-law abuses her and the mother-in-law often warns her to send her back to her mother’s house.

The husband of the woman also spoke to The Kashmiriyat and ridiculed the allegations made against his family saying that nobody troubles her at the house. The family just asks her to work and wake up early. “I do not know what forced her to take such an extreme step, but it is not the case as portrayed by the family of his wife,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

“We have a young daughter and have married after being in relation for several years, i do not know why are such allegations being made against my family,” he added.

Meanwhile, a doctor speaking told The Kashmiriyat that the woman is stable now, but she is still under special care.
