After a one-day suspension, the Amarnath Yatra resumed on Tuesday, with over 1,800 pilgrims departing from the Jammu base camp toward the holy cave shrine in the South Kashmir Himalayas, according to officials.
So far this year, more than 490,000 pilgrims have visited the 3,880-meter-high cave shrine, surpassing the 450,000 visitors recorded in 2023.
The 39th batch of 1,873 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu at 3:25 a.m. in a convoy of 69 vehicles, escorted by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and local police.
The annual yatra, which began on June 29, is scheduled to conclude on August 19. The previous day’s halt was implemented as a precautionary measure in observance of the fifth anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.
