On Saturday, a 25-year-old pregnant lady was denied of hospital ambulance in Kokernag area of South Kashmir.

Attendants of the pregnant lady told The Kashmiriyat that Kokernag hospital administration referred the pregnant lady to another nearby hospital.

“As we packed the baggage, got into the hospital ambulance to move to the other hospital, the ambulance driver began abusing us verbally,” Mohammad Amir, an attendant of the pregnant lady said.

Amir expressing his disappointment said that a hospital ambulance is meant to provide free services to the patients, “How can a patient be denied of ambulance services?”

Amir also alleged that the ambulance driver could have been drunk and that the driver fought with Amir’s brother, as well. He said that he did not even spare the patient of vulgar slurs.

He told The Kashmiriyat that despite ambulance services in hospital, they were forced to travel via private transport to reach the other hospital for treatment.

The Kashmiriyat contacted Block Medical Officer (BMO), Kokernag, who said that they had constituted a panel regarding the incident and assured that if the driver was found guilty, an immediate action would be taken.

“We have not yet talked to the pregnant lady. Once we talk to her, we will start the enquiry,” he told The Kashmiriyat.

Later, The Kashmiriyat contacted the driver, who is a consolidated worker there. He said that the two patients approached him at the same time and started tussling with each other.

“I told them that I could only lift one at the moment, but another man present there filmed my video and uploaded it on social media,” the driver Mukhtar Ahmed, said.

He also alleged that people were making a misuse of the social media without any verification of the incident.
