Marred with electricity outages amid the chilling winter, the resident of Kashmir valley will have to face longer power cuts now as the Kashmir Power Development Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has decided to further increase power curtailment hours.
In a presser, the KPDCL has said that the non-metered areas will face power cuts of about 6 to 7.5 hours a day. While as in metered areas power cuts will last from 4.5 to 6 hours a day.
As per an earlier schedule. the non-metered areas in Srinagar will face a power cut of 3 hours a day while as the metered areas will have power curtailment of 1.5 hours a day.
Amidst the shivering cold, as the temperatures are dropping drastically across Kashmir, the valley is witnessing frequent power cuts, like every year, which has caused widespread grief among the people.
The prevailing power crisis from down South to up north, including the rural and urban areas of Kashmir, has left people distraught.
Residents of the valley complain that they are paying normal fees, taxes and bills, yet the electricity they are receiving is minimal. “The administration claims to be making huge advances in electricity, but the changes in electricity are hardly visible on the ground,” Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar, a resident of Kulgam told The Kashmiriyat.
