A lift irrigation scheme in Awantipora area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district is lying defunct causing much inconvenience to people.
Locals from Dogripora in Awantipora told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that scheme is lying defunct for the last one year and is yet to be made operational.
They said the crisis have aggravated as paddy plantation season is underway but they cannot plant the saplings because of lack of irrigation.
They said that officials of concerned department have been visiting the site to make it functional.
“We have time and again requested the department to look into the matter and make it functional during off season but the work could not be taken up,” he added.
They once again requested higher ups to look into the matter so that locals can heave a sigh of relief.
Meanwhile, an official of concerned department said that work on the scheme has been started and it will be made functional within a day or two.
He added that due to haphazard extraction of sand in river Jehlum , water level is receding which creates problems every year—(KNO)
